UC wins back to back championships in Obra Negosyo Eskwela

THE University of Cebu Banilad campus team once again bagged the championship of Obra Negosyo Eskwela (ONE) Cebu Season 2.

The team received P50,000 prize in a ceremony held at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City last June 13.

The contest, which ran from November 2011 to May 2012, had UC Banilad declared as the winner for carrying out the “Native Chicken” food stop in Catmon town, northern Cebu.

Initiated by Gov. Gwen Garcia, in cooperation with the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ONE Cebu is a tripartite partnership between the provincial government, the local government units (LGUs) and the academe.

Each of the 20 LGUs nominated three micro enterprises from which the Capitol screened, zeroing in to one enterprise per LGU.

The chosen enterprises were raffled off to participating schools with UC Banilad getting the Catmon Native Chicken.

The approved project was carried out by the UC team for two months in cooperation with the municipality of Catmon.

“The project hit three birds with one stone. Triple benefits were gained in the process. We were able to help the micro-entrepreneurs improve their business. We exposed our students in real life scenarios. Most of all, it is a demonstration that something good can come out of the government, the business sector and the academe working together,” UC Banilad team coach Christopher Biore said.

During ONE Cebu season 1, UC Banilad also bagged the championship together with partner municipality Sogod.
