Manila Water’s Salin program empowers educators, expands to Rizal

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Water’s Salin program has engaged 430 teachers from 141 public schools across Metro Manila since its launch in 2023, serving as a platform for environmental education focused on water and wastewater management.

Over the past three years, the experiential learning program has conducted 32 batches of seminars designed to equip public school educators with practical knowledge and tools they can integrate into classroom lessons on water sustainability.

Manila Water said the initiative aims to build awareness and advocacy among teachers, helping shape students into responsible stewards of water resources.

Building on its reach in Metro Manila, the company is now working with the Department of Education divisions of Antipolo and Rizal to bring the Salin program to more schools outside the capital region.

Salin immerses educators in the journey of water, from source to treatment, to deepen their understanding of water management and conservation, the company said.

“Educators are our valuable partners in shaping how young people understand and value water. Through Salin, we aim to empower teachers with knowledge and experiences that they can pass on to their students, creating ripple effects of awareness and action for sustainable water management,” said Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Communication Affairs Group director.

Manila Water said it envisions a broader network of educators championing water sustainability as the program expands, with classrooms serving as hubs of environmental responsibility and community awareness.
