Lyceum eyes second straight win

THE LYCEUM University Pirates will try to build on their surprising season-opening victory as they face the Perpetual Help Altas in the 87th NCAA basketball tournament today at the Arena in San Juan City.

The Pirates, former conquerors of the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association and now probationary members of the league, announced their entry into the NCAA with a 75-63 win over the St. Benilde Blazers last Monday.

Doing most damage in that game were Chris Cayabyab, who poured in 20 points, while big man Allan Santos had tremendous numbers with 19 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks. Floricel Guevarra also scored in twin digits with 13 markers.

The Altas, on the other hand, will be trying their luck once again after getting blasted by the defending champions San Beda Red Lions, 82-52, in the opening game of this season last Saturday.

Likewise, the Arellano Chiefs and the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers will also be looking to bounce back after suffering losses in their first matches.

The Heavy Bombers were outclassed by the San Sebastian Golden Stags, 67-73. The Chiefs were also downed by their bitter rivals Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 78-73./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
