MANILA, Philippines – A new low-pressure area (LPA) was seen over the Pacific Ocean east of Visayas while Tropical Storm “Carina” (International name “Talim”) moved towards Taiwan, the state-run weather bureau said in its latest bulletin Wednesday.
The LPA was seen at 750 kilometers east off eastern Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Meanwhile, Carina was at 440 kilometers north-northwest of Basco Batanes with winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and still moving northeast at 30 kph, Pagasa said.
The southwest monsoon was seen to continue affecting Northern and Central Luzon with rains becoming frequent over the western part of the country, it said.
Eastern Mindanao was also likely to experience rainshowers and thunderstorms, it said.
Pagasa advised against travel by fishing boats and other small seacraft because of moderate to rough seas.
