Recto: Inflation kept under control in 2025

MANILA, Philippines — The Marcos administration has kept inflation under control in 2025, Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said on Sunday.

The former finance chief said the inflation rate was cut by more than half this year compared to 2024 as it fell from 3.4 percent last year to just 1.6 percent from January to November.

Recto also noted a downward trend since President Marcos assumed office, saying inflation declined from 5.8 percent in 2022 and 6 percent in 2023.

“To put this in perspective, a 6% inflation rate means that your P100 can buy only about P94 worth of goods and services. But with inflation down to just 1.6% in 2025, that same P100 can now buy about P98.4 worth of goods and services,” he said.

Recto also highlighted the sale of rice at P20 per kilo, which he said was about half the average price in 2022.

He added that the lower inflation rate gave the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas greater policy space to recalibrate interest rates, which could potentially provide further support for household spending and overall economic activity.

He said new initiatives and investment opportunities, particularly in agriculture, will soon be announced.
