Underpass mulled for south road
Plans for two underpasses on both sides of the Cebu South Coastal Road were included in the list of priority projects for Cebu City next year.
Rep. Tomas Osmeña of Cebu City’s south district said the projects worth P160.4 million are included for funding by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as part of P700.4 million worth of projects in the south, including drainage and road projects.
“Once the underpasses are there, we’ll make the South Coastal Road an express lane where U-turns are prohibited,” he said.
The two underpasses will prevent vehicles from cutting across the expressway and making a turn to and from access roads connecting to the South Road Properties (SRP).
Osmeña said this would prevent traffic congestion and vehicular accidents.
The City Development Council (CDC) chaired by Mayor Michael Rama approved the two underpasses in their meeting last week on condition that the council is given a copy of the technical study.

Vehicles from the Mambaling access road that are headed for City Hall area will be barred from turning left to join traffic on the left lane of the South Coastal Road.
Instead, vehicles will turn right and travel to the underpass located under the Talisay City bridge.
