Residents of Naga City in southern Cebu no longer have to walk far to fetch water after the Apo Cement Corp. (Apocemco) Cemex donated a deep well for their daily needs.
At least 100 families in the area who have no water connections will benefit from the project, which is located in sitio Atis, barangay Inoburan.
These families will now breathe a sigh of relief as water is already within their reach, unlike before where they had to walk a kilometer to an upland area before they could get water from a well, called tabay lubo by local folks.
The P1 million deep well, driven by a 3 horsepower submersible pump and a tank with a capacity of 27 cubic meters, is in partnership with Naga city government.
It was inaugurated yesterday by Apocemco Cemex plant director Normandy Chan, with Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Central Visayas (MGB-7) Director Loreto Alburo and City Mayor Valdemar Chiong.
The project was sealed through a memorandum of agreement signed by Chan and Inoburan barangay captain Rodolfo Tomada and witnessed by Mayor Chiong and Alburo.
One of the beneficiaries was grateful to Apocemco for giving them easy access to water.
