MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday maintained that personalities involved in anomalous flood control projects will be jailed before Christmas Day, as promised by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

At a briefing on Monday, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro was asked if more people tied to the alleged corruption mess will be put behind bars. This was after a warrant of arrest was issued against former Ako Bicol Representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co.

“Katulad po ng pangako ng Pangulo ay mayroong maisyuhan ng warrant of arrest, may hindi magiging maganda ang Pasko dahil sa mga nasangkot sa maanomalyang flood control project,” Castro said.

(Just like the President’s promise, there will be warrants of arrest issued. Some people involved in the anomalous flood control project will not have a good Christmas.)

“So, abangan na lang po natin dahil ito naman din po ay, sa ating pagkakaalam, talagang tinatrabaho rin po at pinagtutuunan ng pansin ng DOJ pati na po ng Ombudsman,” she added.

(So, let us just wait and see, because as far as we know, this is really being worked on and given serious attention by the DOJ, as well as by the Office of the Ombudsman.)

Last November, Marcos delivered a stern message to personalities linked to anomalous flood control projects in the country, warning they will be jailed before the year ends.

“Palagay ko bago mag…hindi, hindi ‘palagay ko’…alam ko bago mag Pasko marami dito sa napangalanan dito ay palagay ko nasa ano na, matatapos na ‘yung kaso nila, buo na ‘yung kaso,” he said at a press conference.

(I think before…no, not “I don’t think”…I know before Christmas many of those named here. Their case will be finished; the case will be complete.)

“Makukulong na sila, wala silang Merry Christmas,” he said when asked when these persons would be jailed.

(They’re going to be locked up; they won’t have a Merry Christmas.) /gsg
