MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will raise its alert level status to “code blue” on December 15 then “code red” on December 23 for the holiday festivities.

“The BFP will deploy 32,000 personnel across the country,” the bureau’s spokesperson Fire Senior Superintendent Bonifacio Carta said in a forum in Quezon City on Friday.

“Starting December 15, the whole BFP will be put under alert status code blue. Then, from December 23 to January 2, we will be on code red, wherein all leave applications are suspended except for sick leaves,” he added.

According to the BFP, code blue meant that the bureau’s personnel are on heightened alert for fire incidents.

Carta further noted that the 32,000 personnel to be deployed over the holidays are tasked primarily to keep fire trucks and ambulances accessible; inspect locations for fire safety; and monitor designated community areas for fireworks displays.

He added that the BFP will also be deploying its First Aid Service Teams amid the celebrations of Christmas and the New Year. /das
