MANILA, Philippines – Batangas Representative Mark Llandro Mendoza has called on agriculture producers to abandon their threat of declaring a five-day market holiday, saying this would greatly affect the sector.
A market holiday means that the agriculture producers would not deliver their goods to their consumers.
But Mendoza, also the chairman of the House committee on agricultural, told Radyo Inquirer on Tuesday that the threat was “heavy” and would cause peril to the livelihood of those in the agriculture sector.
The agriculture producers made the threat after they gave a two-week ultimatum for Bureau of Customs Commissioner (BOC) Ruffy Biazon to implement reforms in his agency. The ultimatum will end this week.
Mendoza also called on Biazon to reach a compromise deal with the producers to solve the conflict, the report said.
