Man dies, girlfriend injured in Catmon bike crash

A 25-YEAR-OLD man was killed while his girlfriend was injured when his driven motorcycle yesterday collided with a  ten-wheeler truck in barangay Catmon daan, Catmon town, northern Cebu.

Jeffrey Gerebese, a worker of a water-refilling station, died of severed head injuries.

His  21-year-old fiancee Cherilou Berdijo of barangay Opao, Mandaue City, is recuperating in a Cebu City hospital.

Gerebese was heading to Cebu City on board his black Honda motorcycle with Berdijo as his back rider.

Police said Gerebese was speeding through a zigzag road in barangay Catmondaan past 6 a.m. when he collided with a silver 10-wheeler Mitsubishi Fuso van owned by Mandaue Foam that was headed to northern Cebu.

Police said the motorcycle hit the front left tire of the truck, which was driven by 37-year-old Laluna Estomago.

Police said Gerebese and Berdijo were thrown off the motorcycle and crashed on the pavement.

“Nagkasugat jud sila (The motorycle and the truck collided),” said PO2 Ben Navales of the Catmon  police precinct in a phone interview.

Berdijo was brought to a hospital.

The man’s sister  said the couple were planning to get married,  said PO2 Ben Navales of the Catmon police.

The truck driver is  detained at the Catmon police precinct.

He  will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide .
