CAMP VICENTE LIM, Philippines—Members of the National Bureau of Investigation busted an alleged “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) laboratory in Imus, Cavite, early Monday.

The operating team from the Counter Intelligence Division (CID), a unit of the NBI based in Manila, raided the home of arrested suspect Wilma Sarno, 45, in Barangay (village) Anabu-E around 5 a.m., according to a CID agent who requested anonymity for lack of authority to speak to media.

The raid was based on a search warrant issued by Judge Marino de la Cruz of the Regional Trial Court Branch 22 in Manila, the source said.

Authorities seized suspected drug paraphernalia such as weighing scales and tooters, and a still undetermined quantity of chemicals allegedly used in making shabu from Sarno’s home.

The CID acted based on information that the suspect’s home was used as a “makeshift” laboratory for the illegal drugs, the agent added.

The recovered pieces of evidence were taken to the bureau’s forensic laboratory for inventory while Sarno, who was the subject of the warrant, would be charged in court, said the agent.
