President Benigno Aquino III has given up his Porsche, saying it was a high security risk, 990AM reports.
MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III has given up his Porsche, saying it was a high security risk.
The President disclosed on Tuesday that he has sold his P4.5 million Porsche as he could not use it without raising possible security risks for himself and presidential guards.
“It’s putting unnecessary risk to the people who are guarding me, the PSG (Presidential Security Group),” Mr. Aquino told reporters in an interview after he attended the celebration of the 113th anniversary of the Department of Foreign Affairs at the DFA office in Manila.
He said using the Porsche was like “an advertisement that I am here.”
Since the car would deteriorate if it were just left in the garage, the President said “it was time to let somebody to experience it.”
Mr. Aquino said he sold the Porsche at “exactly the same price I bought it.”
The President declined to answer more questions about the car which he stressed was “no longer in my possession.”
Mr. Aquino’s popularity ratings slumped following his purchase of the “third-hand” sports car.
An erstwhile supporter, Juana Change, made a video lambasting the president’s purchase of the car which she said came at a time when people were reeling from high prices. The video went viral on the Internet.
