Vega’s clutch basket tows SADP Bullets to seniors crown
EDWARD Vega came up with a pivotal endgame play to lead the SADP Bullets to a close 76-75 overtime victory over Sitio Lemon in the seniors division championship game of the Tambisan Inter-Sitio Summer League last Saturday at the Tambisan basketball court in barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City.
Vega, who wound up with 12 points, completed a huge defensive effort by the Bullets in the dying seconds of the game to pull off the victory.
The championship game was a virtual dogfight with the score at the end of regulation pegged at 54-all.
Sitio Lemon seemed to have the win in the bag after it led, 75-74, with seven seconds remaining in overtime and the possession on its side.
However, the Bullets pressured on the inbound pass, forcing their opponents to a turnover. Vega came up with the steal and made the game-winning shot with three seconds left. Sitio Lemon didn’t score from thereon.
Michael Samson led the Bullets with 26 points while Ayi Armenion added 23. Loloy Flores paced the runner-up Sitio Lemon team with 26 points.
The tournament was sponsored by barangay councilor Paul Gallego and organized by current University of the Visayas Green Lancer Phil Mercader with the help of Clyde Caruana and Langel Dizon. /pr
