MANILA, Philippines—Two suspected robbers were killed by policemen in a shootout on Monday in Quezon City.
Chief Inspector Ariel Capocao, deputy chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD-CIDU), said the shooting took place around 7:30 p.m. along Commonwealth Avenue near the corner of Zuzuarregui in Barangay Holy Spirit.
He said Allan Michael Reyes, a driver of Katreen Taxi, and his passenger Dominador Tara, a call center agent were hit in the crossfire as they drove by.
Reyes was wounded in the right leg, while Tara sustained gunshot wound in the buttocks.
The slain suspects have yet to be identified.
Capocao said the suspects fired at pursuing policemen after they had jumped off a passenger jeep. The two were about to rob its passengers when a police car happened to pass by.
“The suspects could have panicked and fired at the police car,” the police official said. Two loaded .38 revolvers were found on the suspects.
Police have been conducting routine patrol duty along Commonwealth Avenue because of the high incidence of street crimes in the area.
