Vida named acting DOJ secretary

MANILA, Philippines – Fredderick Vida, who was initially named officer in charge (OIC) of the Department of Justice (DOJ), is formally taking over as acting secretary, succeeding Ombudsman Jesus Remulla.  

Vida first made the announcement during the 89th anniversary celebration of the National Bureau of Investigation on Thursday. 

“The work continues. Nothing has changed, [whether I’m] OIC or acting [secretary],” he told reporters on the sidelines.

A Nov. 12 document from Malacañang also showed his appointment as acting secretary, which is subject to confirmation by the Commission on Appointments.

Vida served as assistant secretary during the leadership of Remulla at the DOJ and was eventually promoted to undersecretary in October 2023.

Before his stint at the DOJ, he served three straight terms as mayor of Mendez in Cavite province from 2013 to 2022. /jpv
