Marcos names Charlito Mendoza as new BIR chief

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Finance Undersecretary Charlito Mendoza as the new commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), replacing Romeo Lumagui Jr.
This was confirmed through an appointment letter dated November 12.
No reason was given for the change in leadership at the bureau.

Mendoza, who was appointed to the Department of Finance in 2024, previously served as the district collector of the Bureau of Customs’ Port of Cebu.
He holds a law degree from San Beda University and placed third in the 2004 bar examinations. He also has a degree in geodetic engineering from the University of the Philippines.
