Legarda lauds PH chefs, restaurants honored in Michelin Guide 2026

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Loren Legarda has filed a resolution commending Filipino chefs, restaurants, and culinary professionals recognized in the inaugural Michelin Guide Philippines 2026.
In Senate Resolution No. 164, Legarda said the Michelin Guide Manila and Environs & Cebu 2026 celebrated the country’s culinary diversity, from fine dining and sustainable gastronomy to casual and regional eateries that reflect the nation’s food identity.
“We are happy that such a prestigious international culinary guide has finally recognized Filipino cuisine as a rising star in the Asian region,” Legarda said. “Hopefully this also raises the level of many to aspire to have their own Bib Gourmand or Michelin star recognition someday.”

She expressed hope that the distinction would also bolster the country’s tourism appeal.
“Hopefully, this recognition is something that uplifts our local tourism industry, to be another hub in Asia where visitors could enjoy the diverse choices in various regions of the country.”
The Michelin Guide evaluated 108 establishments in Manila and Cebu to identify the country’s top culinary destinations.
Makati City was awarded the country’s sole two-Michelin-star recognition, given to Chef Josh Boutwood’s Helm for its exceptional skill, harmony of flavors, and memorable dining experience.
Eight other restaurants—located in Makati, Taguig City, Parañaque City, and Alfonso, Cavite—earned one Michelin Star for showcasing culinary mastery, innovation, and the use of Philippine ingredients.
Meanwhile, 25 establishments received the Bib Gourmand for offering high-quality food at reasonable prices. Another 74 restaurants in the Greater Manila Area and Cebu were listed as Michelin Selected.
“Filipino cuisine will always be special, and this recognition will only take the culinary industry to new heights,” Legarda said.
She added that the Michelin Guide’s arrival marked a milestone aligned with the goals of the National Tourism Development Plan 2023-2028 to foster sustainable, inclusive growth anchored in Filipino culture and creativity.
