The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles once again made waves on the national scene as they captured the championship of the 15-under division in the first-ever NBA 3-on-3 Philippines, which was held over the weekend at the SM Mall of Asia in Manila.
The Magis Eagles, composed of big men, Dawn Ochea, Julius Cadavis and guards, Patrick Go and Dave Yu, capped off their stellar showing in the tournament by downing the IRS in the finals, 19-4, to claim the coveted crown.
They breezed through the tournament without a single loss, first winning their first match by the score of 19-0 before escaping with a 10-8 win over Raja.
They continued to rule over the rest of the field, winning over Seeds of Wisdom, 21-4, before waylaying Villamor Airbase, 21-8, in the semifinals.
Go, Cadavis and Ochea each had five points in the finals while Yu added four to underscore their balanced scoring attack.
Go and Ochea are members of the Jr. NBA Philippine teams of 2010 and 2011, respectively. They were coached by SHS-AdC’s Rommel Rasmo.
The NBA 3-on-3 Philippines 2011 presented by Sprite is the NBA’s first ever 3-on-3 tournament in the ASEAN region. NBA legend Horace Grant was on hand to grace the affair.
