Consolacion, UC-Banilad top Capitol’s Obra Negosyo tilt
A “SAROK”-making venture by a Consolacion town native won the second edition of the Obra Negosyo Eskwela Countryside Enterprise Business Upliftment (One Cebu) program at the Cebu International Convention Center last Thursday.
Guillerma Balaba who partnered with the University of the Philippines-Cebu in making the “sarok,” a native hat, received P50,000 in additional capital while a trophy was awarded to the school.
In an interview, Balaba thanked the students for helping her in her business.
A sarok was placed at the back of the CICC’s plenary hall.
UP students painted the saroks with different Filipino-themed designs like a Philippine flag and also made key chains that depict a miniature sarok.
Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casino, a guest speaker in last Thursday’s event, lauded the participants and the organizers for promoting the manufacture and use of products produced by micro small medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Tied at second place were Catmon’s Native Chicken Carinderia and Bogo City’s Pering’s Pintos.
At third place was the citronella oil of Boljoon and fourth place was Lorna’s Tableya of Sogod town.
Fifth place was Joe’s Tuba of Sibonga town and sixth place was Soling’s Bakeshop of Alcoy town; seventh place was Tudela’s cassava cookies; eighth place was Nila’s Fashion Accessories of Borbon town.
Rounding out the top nine was Lloyd Carriaga’s Furniture of Alegria town and Judylyn’s Handicraft of Dalaguete.
All other winners received an additional capital of P50,000 and a trophy from One Cebu.
The top five best students were also awarded. Fifth and fourth place went to teams 1 and 2 of the University of San Carlos while third place went to the University of the Visayas.
Coming in at second place was the Cebu Normal University while the University of Cebu- Banilad Campus topped the contest. They each received a One Cebu trophy and cash prizes.
