PNP: Almost 3,000 cops charged with admin cases so far this year

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said its watchdog Internal Affairs Service (IAS) charged 3,288 police officers with administrative offenses from January to September 2025.

This was an increase from the 2,857 police officers charged during the same period in 2024, the PNP said in a statement, maintaining that it was “a clear indication of stronger internal enforcement and accountability across all levels.”

The national police force did not expound on the nature of the administrative cases nor the ranks and units of the police officers involved.

Further, the PNP said the IAS received 2,041 complaints, finished 1,508 pre-charge investigations, and resolved 1,041 cases against erring police officers.

The internal watchdog also conducted 16,735 inspections of police units across the country.

On the other hand, the IAS recorded 3,912 infractions by police officers from January to September 2025, a decrease from the 6,244 infractions logged during the same period in 2024, the PNP noted.

It added that the IAS published a handbook for investigators and the agency’s inspectors as part of the unit’s 26th founding anniversary last Oct. 15. /mr
