According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the tectonic earthquake was located 19 km southwest of the town. It had a depth of 88 kilometers.

Batangas is among the most seismically active areas in the Philippines, primarily due to the presence of the Lubang Fault, which lies between Mindoro Island and Batangas.

The Philippines sits along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” where tectonic plates collide, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity./coa/abc
