A policeman was charged with multiple counts of frustrated homicide after he fired his gun and hit several people watching a rock band contest in Sampaloc, Manila, before dawn on Sunday.
An additional charge of alarm and scandal was also slapped against Police Officer 1 Brian Jay Fajardo, a member of the Quezon City Police District’s Public Safety Battalion and a resident of Domingo Santiago Street in Sampaloc.
Fajardo underwent inquest proceedings at the City Prosecutor’s Office Monday afternoon.
At around 4 a.m. on Sunday, a gang war broke out in the middle of a contest among rock bands being held near the policeman’s house, a report sent to the Manila Police District’s General Assignments Section said.
To break up the fight, Fajardo fired warning shots but the bullets hit Cristina Pagaymon, 58; Catherine del Mundo, 19; Arnel Dechoso, 29; Janno King Interno, 21; and Mara Baviera, 19.
The victims were treated at a nearby hospital while Fajardo was taken by the police into custody.
