The La Liga Filipina was founded by Jose Rizal in Tondo, Manila, on July 3, 1892. The organization, whose members included Andres Bonifacio and Apolinario Mabini, pushed for national unity and peaceful change in the country. Considered subversive by the Spanish authorities, Rizal was arrested and deported to Dapitan. The La Liga died soon after.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
