Even if the man who stabbed his mother dead appears to be mentally challenged by the way he talks, the police will still bring the case to court and allow the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) to examine him to determine if he is fit to stand trial. Senior Supt. Armando Bolalin, Mandaluyong police chief, said the suspect, a 26-year-old who, according to his relatives, had been diagnosed with autism, remains detained as of Wednesday as probers await the results of tests being conducted by the NCMH. Investigators who questioned the suspect described him as having the mind of a child and unable to talk in complete sentences. He purportedly told them that he killed his mother after she refused to let him watch a film starring comedienne Eugene Domingo. “We have filed the case at the city prosecutor’s office. It’s now the fiscal who will determine if the man should still be detained or not,” Bolalin said. The suspect stabbed and killed his mother, a former dean of a university in Mandaluyong, last week inside their condominium unit at Dansalan Garden, Barangay Malamig in Mandaluyong City. Amid beer bottles, German found dead in condo
The decomposing body of a 45-year-old German was found inside his condominium unit in Mandaluyong City on Tuesday night. Senior Police Officer 1 Emmanuel Ernino identified the dead man as Sylvio Muller, a resident of Gateway Garden Ridge on Edsa. The police said the victim’s friends became alarmed after he failed to respond to their calls and text messages in the last five days. “His friends asked the building administrator of Gateway Garden Ridge to forcibly open the main door of his apartment to check if Muller was inside,” Ernino said. A check on his room led the hotel staff to the German’s body which was found on the floor, surrounded by a heap of empty beer bottles. Snatcher with ‘sumpak’ killed
The police killed a robber on Tuesday night after he targeted a call center agent in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Alvin Ramirez, a 22-year-old resident of Lico Street in Tondo, Manila, died of multiple gunshot wounds after a shoot-out with policemen who heard his victim’s cries for help. Ghileen Alacon said she was waiting for a jeepney at the corner of Rizal Avenue and Samal Street when Ramirez held her at knife point and grabbed her shoulder bag. SPO2 Ronald Gallo of the Manila Police District homicide section said Alacon, who was also armed with an improvised shotgun (sumpak) was able to snatch her bag back and run away while shouting for help. BSP writing workshop set
The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) will host the first Asia-Pacific Region (APR) Scouting Workshop for Correspondents organized by the World Scout Bureau’s Asia-Pacific Region head office on June 22 to 25. The workshop will be held at the BSP National Office in Manila and is expected to draw 50 correspondents from 24 member countries of the World Scout Bureau’s Asia-Pacific Region. The workshop offers an opportunity for honorary correspondents to meet and share strategies on how to set and sustain communication standards for national scout organizations in a global context and to enhance their journalistic skills. Some of the guest lecturers will be from the World Scout Bureau office in Geneva and also include journalists from Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines.
