GERALD Jacaban completed a split free throw with no time left to lead the Qualfon Knights to a thrilling 65-64 overtime win over the hard-luck Calltek Trojans last Monday in the northern division battle of the 2012 Sun Cellular E-League for Basketball at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.
The score was tied at 64-all when Jacaban was able to fish a foul from Cedrich Uy just before the final buzzer sounded.
Jacaban, who finished with a team-high 19 points, never let his team down, making one of two free throws that iced Qulafon’s third win against the same number of losses.
Mari Anolito scored 12 points, Rafael Cuico had 10 as the Knights survived a measly eight-point first quarter production.
Aerl Genebraldo scored a game-high 27 points, while Jan Pierre Gelez tallied 17 markers in Calltek’s fifth loss in as many games.
Meanwhile, defending champion Stream Ingenyouity and the Aegis Vipers hacked out one-sided victories with the former trashing the JP Morgan Chase and Co. Bankers, 73-45, and the formoer disposing of the 1&1 Marauders, 74-49.
No player scored in double figures for Stream but all the 15 players submitted at least two points, a balanced attack that keyed the defending champion’s fourth win in five starts.
Joel Anthony Obungen scored 12 points for the Bankers, who fell to 1-5 (win-loss).
Clifford Amarado banged in 23 points, Dean Junber Escalon scored 12 and John Louie Arriesgado had 10 for the Vipers, who picked up their fifth win with a solitary loss.
Orlando Bastida scored 18 points, Raymaond Basañez added 10 for the Marauders, who slid to 3-3. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
