LEGAZPI CITY— Four people died in the provinces of Masbate and Camarines Norte after Severe Tropical Storm “Opong” struck the Bicol region, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Friday.
Claudio Yucot, director of OCD Bicol, said the victim in Monreal town, Masbate was hit by a fallen tree; one was crushed by a collapsed wall in Masbate City, while another was hit by falling debris in Mobo town on Friday morning.

The victim in Mercedes town in Camarines Norte was struck by lightning on Thursday, Yucot said in a text message.
He said the municipal disaster response officials were still validating the incidents.
Masbate province experienced strong winds and rains after Opong made a second landfall in Palanas town at around 4 a.m. on Friday.
OCD initially reported that 85,691 families or 318,111 persons were affected by the bad weather conditions in the six provinces in the region./coa/abc
