PNP eyes task group to aid DPWH flood control project validation

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police is planning to create a “top-level task group” to assist the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in its investigation of flood control projects nationwide, the PNP announced on Tuesday.

“The PNP is ready to support the DPWH in its efforts to validate flood control projects, especially since these projects are crucial to protecting lives and property during calamities,” PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said.

This is in response to DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon’s request for police assistance during validations of flood control projects.

“We will provide personnel as necessary to assist in ensuring transparency, integrity, and security during the validation process,” Nartatez added.

The police chief also gave his assurance that the deployment will not affect the PNP’s other mandates.

“We will adjust our deployments so our core responsibilities in crime prevention, law enforcement, and disaster response remain fully operational. This mission will be carefully integrated into our existing duties through proper coordination and resource allocation,” Nartatez explained.

Body-worn cameras may be used when police officers are assisting the validation activities of the DPWH, according to the PNP.

Earlier, the PNP also extended security to the members of the Independent Commission on Infrastructure, who are responsible for investigating flood control and other infrastructure projects nationwide. /das
