LUCENA CITY — A 33-year-old farmer drowned while helping a group of students cross a swollen river in Catanauan town, Quezon province, on Monday.
In a belated report released Wednesday, Quezon police said the victim, identified only as “Marwin,” was assisting students across the spillway of a river in Barangay Doongan Ilaya around 6 p.m. when he reportedly slipped and was swept away by strong currents.

Village officials immediately launched a search and rescue operation. Marwin’s body was later found downstream.
Police have classified the case as a “drowning incident.”/coa
