A 1-year-old girl was hit and wounded by a stray bullet inside her home in Upper Lipata, Minglanilla town, south Cebu, last Sunday.
A bullet was removed from the head of Charice Opsima, who is recuperating at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Police said they are investigating who could have fired the gun. The bullet entered through the house roof, meaning it could have come from a weapon discharged outside the house and into the air.
Charice was drinking a glass of Milo chocolate around 6:30 a.m. when her mother Eralyn, 19, heard her crying.
The mother rushed to Charice’s side, and found her lying on the floor bloodied.
No burst of gunfire was heard, said residents.
PO2 Vincent Aliñabo said a Cebu City policeman who lives 15 meters away denied firing his gun at that time.
He said he was asleep when the bullet entered Eralyn’s house through the roof.
A firing range is located about two kilometers away from the house.
Investigation is ongoing, said police.REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
