At least 18 vintage bomb shells were pulled out from the Lahug Elementary School and turned over to police yesterday for safekeeping.
Police said the bombs, which were hung as decorations in the school’s flagpole from 1951 to 1997, are now under the custody of the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT).
Manuel Indig, a retired industrial arts teacher, said the bombs were removed from the school’s flagpole in 1997 after the ground was asphalted. Indig said the bombs were then stored at the school’s stockroom.
Senior Supt. Ramon Buenafe, Cebu City police chief, said they took custody of bombs to give the teachers and pupils peace of mind. correspondent chito aragon
