The Cebu City government yesterday distributed yesterday P3,000 financial assistance to senior citizens registered with the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.
Staff from the OSCA) and the City Treasurers Office (CTO) facilitated the release of the first tranche of the financial aid to Cebu City residents aged 60-years-old and above.
Mayor Michael Rama said he gave instructions to city treasurer Ofelia Oliva to designate personnel who will assist elders who were having problems with their monetary claims.
“Those not yet in the list will still be listed and after validation, if they qualify, we will give them their cash aid,” said Rama.
Among the difficulties OSCA is facing is the “fluid” nature of the senior’s citizens list as some members die and many others who have just turned 60-years-old register.
Another P2,000 is due for release to senior citizens in December.
Rama said that if funding would permit, he wants to add another P1, 000 to also raise to P3, 000 the December assistance.
Elders aged more than 60 years old will have to be a voter of Cebu City and a resident for at least 5 years before they qualify for assistance.
Rama said that if elders are registered only with the OSCA office this year, they will have to wait until next year for their share of the city’s financial assistance. Edison A. delos Angeles, Correspondent with reports from Tweeny M. Malinao
