Rama wants ‘campaign’ streamers removed

/ 12:25 PM June 12, 2012

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has ordered the removal of all streamers and posters to rid the streets of premature campaign materials.

Rama also wanted to disprove accusations by political critics that he is trying to single out the  “type O” steamers and posters that now proliferate around the city.

“In fact, I have asked forgiveness from my grandfather as streamers posted in his honor are going to be removed,” Rama said.

The mayor’s earlier order to remove “Type O” streamers drew criticisms from Bando Osmena Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK).

Included in the mayors order are the streamers honoring his grandfather ’Don Vicente Rama which were posted in celebration of the city’s 7th charter anniversary last February.

The mayor also ordered the removal of streamers posted in barangays to express support for the flyover projects being proposed by north district representative Rachel “Cutie” del Mar.

“That is an obstruction if placed in a public area,” said Rama.

He said that as a policy, his Team Rama also display their streamers and campaign posters during their pulong-pulong but they make it a point to have these removed after their meetings. Doris C. Bongcac, Chief of Reporters
