De Lima leads Independence Day rite in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Leila DeLima on Tuesday led the 114th Independence Day Celebration at the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan.

Traditionally, the Chief Justice also leads the Independence Day Celebration but acting Supreme Court spokesperson Gleo Guerra said acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio was only invited to the Independence Day toast in Malacanang.

Last year, as well as in 2010, former Chief Justice Renato Corona led the Independence Day celebration in Kawit, Cavite.

Then Chief Justice Reynato Puno also led the Independence Day Celebration at the Bonifacio Monument in 2009 and 2008.
