Manila closes 2 major roads for Independence Day rites

MANILA, Philippines–At least two major roads in Manila will be closed to vehicular traffic for Tuesday’s 114th Independence Day celebration.

Portions of Roxas Boulevard, from Katigbak Drive to T.M. Kalaw Avenue, as well as Ma. Orosa Street, from Padre Burgos Street to TM Kalaw Avenue, will be closed to traffic starting 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to Supt. Reynaldo Nava, Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit head.

The two roads, Nava explained, will be closed to traffic for the flag raising and wreath laying activities scheduled at 7 a.m. for the Independence Day rites at Rizal Park.

Nava advised motorists on the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard from the Del Pan Bridge to turn left into Padre Burgos Street and straight through Taft Avenue.

Motorists taking the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard are advised to turn right to T.M. Kalaw Avenue, left to Ma. Orosa Street or go straight to Taft Avenue.

Nava said passenger jeepneys coming from MacArthur, Jones and Quezon bridges should go straight to Taft Avenue and turn right to T.M. Kalaw Avenue instead of passing through Ma. Orosa Street.

He pointed out that cargo trucks traveling through Osmeña Highway should turn right to President Quirino Avenue, go straight to Nagtahan Bridge, A.H. Lacson Avenue, Yuseco Street, cross Jose Abad Santos Avenue to Raxabago Street then Capulong Street.
