Fishing boats distributed to Bicol provinces

LEGAZPI CITY – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 5 (Bicol) distributed 62-foot tuna handline fishing boats across various provinces in the region.

Rowena Briones, BFAR-5 spokesperson, said this would improve the livelihoods of fishers and ensure an adequate fish supply. Each boat costs PHP7 million.

“BFAR-Bicol, through the Fisheries Production and Support Services Division, has awarded three units of 62-foot boats and one ganet fishing boat as part of a series of distributions to the provinces of Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, and Masbate. These boats are equipped with modern fishing technology,” she said.

The boats are designed for handline fishing in deep waters and include equipment that enhances productivity and safety during fishing operations.

“The primary purpose of these boats is for livelihood and capture fishing. However, if the beneficiaries agree, these boats can also be used for transportation or community services, although the main goal remains fishing,” she said. (PNA)/coa
