More ‘Type O’ posters despite cleanup order

More “Type O” streamers and posters will be plastered in Cebu City  streets in the days ahead despite an order by Mayor Michael Rama to remove them.

To stay out of the reach of City Hall sanitation workers, they will be put up in privately owned properties.

“Our followers said they will display it in private properties where it  can’t be removed without permission,” said Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young, referring to the Bando  Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK).

He said this was an initiative of party followers, which he can’t control.

The vice mayor said he also had 10 streamers ready  for those who request it “but we cannot come up with regulations on where these can be hanged because we did not put these up.”

“Type O” is  Rep. Tomas Osmeña’s new campaign teaser for his 2013 bid to reclaim the mayorship of Cebu City.

Philip Zafra,  Mayor Rama’s chief of staff, said city workers  started taking down the streams last Thursday from posts, trees and other poles  on barangay roads.

Some were placed high, making them difficult to remove, said Dionisio Gualiza, Department of Public Services (DPS) head.

Vice Mayor  Young  said the mayor was practicsing  a double standard by singling out “Type O” streamers.

He said posters of the mayor’s  grandfather, Don Vicente Rama,   used during the city’s 75th Charter Day celebration last February still remain in public places and should also be removed.

The Cebu City Council passed a resolution three weeks ago seeking the removal of all unauthorized streamers and tarpaulins hung in major thoroughfares like Osmeña Boulevard.

Mayor Rama said the 75th Charter Day celebration is a year-long celebration which justifies the hanging of his great grand father’s streamers.

But Young said this  has angered BO-PK supporters into producing and posting more “Type O” posters.

One supporter has  promised to reprint 3, 000 streamers, said Young.

“There is nothing that the mayor can do to remove these streamers,” said Young.

Osmeña said in an earlier interview   that it was the mayor’s cousin Basak San Nicolas barangay captain George Rama who actually coined  “Type O”  as a slogan.
