Two low pressure areas (LPA) have been sighted off Mindanao and Mindoro as the active intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) continues to bring rains over the country, the weather bureau said Sunday.

Aldczar Aurelio, a forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said one low pressure area was spotted in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) 220 kilometers west northwest of Calapan Sunday morning.

The other LPA was located 780 kms east of Mindanao and was gathering strength as it hovered over the Pacific Ocean.

Aurelio said this LPA was likely to develop into a tropical depression this week.

Pagasa said both LPAs were spurred by the ITCZ as the weather system continued to affect southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
