A 26-year-old man described by his family as a “special child” was arrested Friday night for allegedly killing his own mother, a former college dean, in Mandaluyong City.
Case investigator SPO1 Ericson Buted declined to make the identities of the suspect and the victim public at the request of the family.
The killing happened at around 10 p.m. at a condominium unit in Dansalan Garden, Barangay Malamig. Only the mother and her son were in the condo at the time, Buted said.
Buted said neighbors first heard the mother scolding her son before they sensed a commotion.
Later, policemen responding to a call from the condo’s security guard found the mother stabbed in the neck and body. They recovered two blood-stained kitchen knives.
The investigator said there were also accounts that the son had just seen “a violent movie” before the scolding.
The suspect was detained at the headquarters of the Mandaluyong City police, which had asked the National Center for Mental Health to examine him prior to the formal filing of charges.
