Robbers victimize businessman, couple

SO-CALLED “Bukas Kotse (open car)” and “Basag Kotse (damage car)” gangs preyed on a businessman in Lapu-Lapu City and a couple in Mandaue City on separate occasions last Thursday and Friday this week.

Businessman Herbert Tan of Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City told the police that he parked his Honda CRV (YGP 983) and had lunch at a nearby food chain when robbers stole more than P90,009 in cash and valuables from his vehicle.

Among those stolen were P11,000 cash and a 9mm pistol worth P80,000.

Police believed the car artists used a false key to open the vehicle since there were no signs of forced entry.

PO2 Joseph Cutanda of the Theft and Robbery Section said there were no witnesses. The food chain and the parking area are also not equipped with CCTV.

Another motorist, 42-year-old Diosdado Napisa of La Aldea Buena Subdivision in barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City, lost his IPad worth P37,000 and a bag filled with documents to robbers who burglarized his Nissan Urvan vehicle.

The vehicle was parked near a fast food chain in Parkmall, Mandaue City. There was also no sign of forced entry.

While reporting the incident to the police, a gasoline station attendant reported that they found a bag minus the valuables inside their toilet. The attendant found the victim’s ID inside the bag. Correspondents Norman V. Mendoza and Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
