Heroic driver helps cops catch robbery suspect

MANILA, Philippines — Police have arrested one of two robbery suspects with the help of a ride-hailing app driver who hit their motorcycle with his vehicle.

The other suspect, however, managed to escape.

The Northern Police District said the robbery happened on Tuesday on McArthur Highway in Caloocan City, with the victim a 63-year-old company messenger who was about to deposit P152,000 in cash at a nearby bank.

The two suspects took the money at gunpoint and then fled on their motorcycle. But a passing ride-hailing app driver witnessed the robbery, gave chase, and rammed his vehicle into their motorcycle with his vehicle, causing them to crash.

Police officers from the Bagong Barrio Police Sub-Station 5, who were on patrol in the area, arrested one of the suspects. —Gabrylle Dumalag
