TOM O: YOUNG NOT DEL MAR IS MY RUNNING MATE
Rep. Tomas Osmeña of Cebu City’s south district said he would definitely run for Cebu City mayor next year with Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young as his running mate.
He denied speculations that former north district congressman Raul del Mar, a close friend, would be his choice and that Young would have to settle for a lower post.
“No way… That’s going to be a very bad move to make del Mar run for vice mayor,” said Osmeña.
He said Young was a strong bet who is well known in both south and north districts of the city.
He said changing candidates would only make their Bando Osmena-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) group look “weak”.
Osmeña said that while del Mar is a known political figures in the north district, he’s not well known in the south district where many residents “can barely spell his family name correctly.”
He said he was confident Young would defeat third term Coucilor Edgar Labella, the vice mayoral candidate of Mayor Michael Rama./Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
GWEN’S SURVEY RANKING IMPROVES
Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia’s rating has improved in the latest Pulse Asia senatorial survey, though she still did not make it to the top 12.
Garcia ranked 32 in the Pulse Asia Survey conducted on May 20 to 26 with at least 1,200 respondents nationwide.
According to Pulse Asia, if the midterm elections were held today, Garcia would rank better between number 29 to 39.
Garcia got a 34 percent awareness rating with 6.7 percent of the people polled who said they would vote for her as a senator.
Garcia recently took her oath as member of the PDP Laban party of Vice President Jejomar Binay. She ranked between 40 to 50 slots in the previous survey, according to One Cebu spokesman Rory Jon Sepulveda.
He said the governor would continue travelling around the country for public awareness.
Garcia is visiting Panay Island today with Vice President Binay to attend the League of Barangay activities. Before that, she was in Tagaytay City./CorrespondentJhunnex Napallacan
MANDAUE CITY COLLEGE HAS NEW ADMINISTRATOR
The Manduae City government has chosen a new administrator for its college.
Dr. Teresa Heyrosa Ynot was selected by a search committee headed by Mayor Jonas Cortes to replace acting administrator Dr. Susana Cabahug, who is retiring.
Cabahug said of the six applicants vying for the position in the Mandaue City College, only Ynot was a resident of Mandaue City.
Ynot formerly worked at the loan unit of Pag-Ibig fund and taught in several universities and colleges in Cebu City such as University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) and Center for International Education (CIE).
Ynot’s appointment will need the concurrence of the Mandaue City Council.
