San Jose bags SK Maguikay hoop title

THE San Jose quintet managed by businessman Jojie Espina trounced Esteban Compound, 51-45, last Sunday to capture the championship of the Maguikay SK-2012 Inter-Sitio Summer League basketball tournament at the barangay Maguikay open court in Esteban Compound, Mandaue City.

Both teams had a sluggish start resulting in a low scoring game with San Jose just leading by one, 11-10 in the opening period and forging a 25-all deadlock at the half.

However, San Jose rallied strong in the third quarter with a blistering, 15-10 surge behind the tandem of future CIT-University Wildkitten Jonher Espina and Jessie James Aloro to erect a five-point lead, 40-35, entering the final 10 minutes of the contest.

San Jose successfully protected its single-digit advantage down the final stretch for the win.

Jonher Espina and Jessie James Aloro led San Jose dribblers with 10 points apiece, while Dodong Gella and Cañoneo paced Esteban Compound with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The basketball tournament is made possible through the efforts of Maguikay SK officials headed by SK Chairman, Jun Elica Dabon.
