Laguna exec, bodyguard slain in ambush
CAMP PACIANO Rizal, Laguna—A Laguna provincial board member and his bodyguard-driver were killed in an ambush by two still unidentified men on Wednesday near the board member’s home in San Pablo City.
Provincial Board Member Leonardo Paras, 55, suffered six gunshot wounds and died at the San Pablo Medical Center past 4 p.m.
His bodyguard-driver, Geovanni Dumaraos, 44, did not make it alive to the hospital.
Supt. Ferdinand de Castro, San Pablo police chief, said the victims were on the way back to San Pablo City from Sta. Cruz town past 8 p.m. when they were attacked as they got near Paras’ house in Barangay 7C in San Pablo.
De Castro said two gunmen apparently waited for Paras to come home.
One of the suspects, later identified as Eugene Bacoto, 25, of Dasmariñas City, Cavite, was wounded in an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and Paras and his driver. Police could not say, though, whether the bullet that hit Bacoto came from Paras or his driver’s gun.
