Gunmen strafe bus in Sulu, killing 4

MANILA, Philippines—Four people were killed, including a 90-year-old, and two others were injured after they were ambushed by still unidentified armed men in Sulu Tuesday, police said Thursday.
In a belated police report, Sulu Police Director, Senior Superintendent Antonio Freyra, identified the fatalities as Corporal Persing Mijan, 30, of Philippine Army’s 35th Infantry Brigade based at Pagadian City; Nurhaimi Mijan, 28; Bismun Lukman; and Hja Jumanun Palahuddin, 90.
He said the victims, who were on board a red Tamaraw Jitney (JCB 122) driven by Lukman, was travelling along a hilly portion along Sitio Nunuk in Barangay (village) Linuho, Parang in Sulu around 6:30 a.m. when they were waylaid and fired upon by the armed men.
“Motive is robbery,” he said, but added that a deeper investigation is still ongoing.
Freyra said the attack also wounded Amil Hambi, 18, and Kumalah Abdah, 9. The three others were unhurt.

The victims were immediately rushed to Parang District Hospital for medical treatment, while police launched a follow-up pursuit operation. Jamie Marie Elona
