MMDA suspends number coding scheme for Thursday, July 24

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended the number coding scheme for Thursday, July 24, due to the inclement weather brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, and the two tropical storms in the country.

The coding scheme has been suspended since Monday.

“The number coding scheme is suspended tomorrow, July 24, 2025 because of bad weather,” said the MMDA in an advisory written in Filipino.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government suspended classes and government work in Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon and Visayas.

According to the 5 p.m. weather bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Tropical Storm Emong may intensify and may reach the severe tropical storm category before making a landfall on Friday.

Pagasa also noted that Emong was monitored some 150 kilometers (km) west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte and moving southwest at 20 kilometers per hour (kph). It was carrying a maximum wind speed of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Meanwhile, Tropical Dante maintained its strength as it moved north-northwest at 25 kph. It was tracked some 835 km east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
