4 hacked to death by ‘mentally-ill’ man

MANILA, Philippines – Four people were killed, including two children, and two others were injured after a “mentally-ill” man allegedly ran amok and hacked her relatives inside their house in Isabela province Wednesday noon, police said on Thursday.

Senior Superintendent Franklin Mabanag, Isabela police director, identified the fatalities as Monica Bilog Rarama, 58; Flora Edralin Ucol, 60; Ariane Maerarama, 3; and Valerie Rarama, 3.

He said the suspect, identified as Jonar Santiago Macni, 37, suddenly drew his bolo “without provocation” and attacked his relatives inside their house along Barangay (village) San Pedro, Roxas, Isabela at around 12:30 p.m.

Also injured from the attack was his own 4-year-old son, Jason Macni, and his other 50-year-old relative identified as Alezander Edralin Rarama, Mabanag said.

He said Macni was arrested and is now under the custody of Roxas police.
