Green turtle found off Tuburan sea
A 100-kilogram sea turtle was found drifting along the coastal area in Tuburan, the northwestern part of Cebu yesterday afternoon.
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) regional director Andres Boholst said that is he coordinated with the municipal agriculture office in Tuburan to investigate and get data of the specie.
The green turtle or chelonia maydas was reportedly found by the Philippine Coast Guard in Tuburan around 4 p.m. yesterday.
Boholst said that the gender, weight and age and the possible migration of the specie would also be investigated to find out how it reached the coastal area of Tuburan.
“We need to emphasize the importance of protecting them since they are considered as endangered species,” Boholst said over the phone.
He said that among their priority project is the protection of the endangered species to protect the marine biodiversity of the ocean.
