Storm surge warning up in Cagayan, Isabela

MANILA, Philippines — Storm surge warnings were issued for areas in Cagayan and Isabela on Thursday due to the effects of Tropical Depression Crising, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its 8 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said there is a “minimal to moderate risk” of storm surges, with heights ranging from 1 to 2 meters, that may affect the following areas within the next 48 hours:
Cagayan
- Abulug
- Aparri
- Baggao
- Ballesteros
- Buguey
- Calayan
- Claveria
- Gattaran
- Gonzaga
- Lal-lo
- Pamplona
- Peñablanca
- Sanchez-mira
- Santa Ana
- Santa Teresita
Isabela
- Dinapigue
- Divilacan
- Maconacon
- Palanan
The Pagasa said the storm surge may cause “minimal to moderate damage to communities, coastal/marine infrastructures, and disruptions to all marine activities.”

“Residents along the coast are advised to take extra precautions due to high waves,” the weather bureau said, adding that all marine activities should be suspended.
Pagasa also urged the public to move to higher ground away from coastal and storm surge-prone areas.
The weather bureau earlier reported that Tropical Depression Crising was last spotted 535 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon.
It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 70 kph, as it moves west-northwestward at 15 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted over the following areas:
- Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands
- Isabela
- Northeastern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao)
- Quirino
- Kalinga
- Eastern portion of Mountain Province (Sadanga, Barlig, Paracelis, Natonin)
- Eastern portion of Ifugao (Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo, Mayoyao, Banaue, Hingyon, Lagawe, Lamut)
- Northeastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Kasibu, Quezon, Bagabag, Diadi)
- Apayao
