Princess Superal shone in spite of the balmy weather by firing 57 points to take a three-point cushion over Sunshine Baraquiel at the kickoff of the 49th Southern Ladies golf tournament at the Cebu Country Club in Banilad yesterday.
Superal took control as she fired in four birdies against a solitary bogey that pushed her to a three-under 69 in stroke play that gained her the lead over Baraquiel of Manila Southwoods in the centerpiece Championship division of the tournament.
Baraquiel matched par worth 54 points while a Cebu bet, Alta Vista’s Ericka Lim, surprised some of the members of the national pool with 53 points, good for solo third place.
Meanwhile, the golden staging of the annual event, organized and conducted by the National Golf Association of the Philippines, will be held at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club on Feb. 6 to 8, 2013.
Earlier, CCC Ladies Chapter president Rosebud Sala and CCC head Montito Garcia hit the ceremonial drive kicking off the 54-hole tournament serving as part of the NGAP-Globe Business Amateur Circuit.
Riviera’s Seo Yon Kwon fired 48 points to wrest a two-point lead over Hanna Wong (46) of the host club in Class A with Del Monte’s Sofia Chabon scoring a 42 for third.
Junia Gabasa of Alta Vista took charge in Class B with 44 points, two ahead of Violeta Pegels (42) of Forest Hills while CCC’s Eva Hino stood three points adrift with 39.
Jung Ja Bae of CCC showed the way in Class C with 45 points for a whopping eight-point lead over Anli Wu (37) of Forest Hills with Genelyn Inot of Mactan and Leni Cabili of Aguinaldo in joint third with 33 points.
